I have to say the bizarre reading style made it hard to listen to but the understanding of it gets lost as well. The story starts out as a fairly conventional adventure at sea, but it becomes increasingly strange and hard to classify in later chapters, involving religious symbolism and the Hollow Earth. Even the natives’ teeth are black. This gives the others a reprieve, but Augustus soon dies from wounds received when they reclaimed the Grampusand several more storms batter the already badly damaged ship.
Docking on land, they encounter hostile black-skinned natives before escaping back to the ocean.

Here’s hoping someone –anyone– records another reading of those chapters. The color white is alien to the island’s inhabitants and unnerves them, because nothing that color exists there.
